Ernie Els announced his first signature 18-hole championship
golf course in Hawaii during a February 2006 groundbreaking ceremony
and news conference.
Els―along with representatives from
Haseko,
ClubCorp,
the Ewa Beach community, and local government, business, and
cultural leaders―participated in a Hawaiian blessing and
ceremony at the site of the future Hoakalei Marina.
Els also toured the site, taking in the mountain, marina, and
ocean views, making note of the natural surroundings, from the
Kiawe trees and native plants growing wild around the site to
the freshly excavated coral mounds being used to shape his
signature design in concert with the natural landscape of the
Ewa Plains.
“Every aspect of this course will be designed to strategically
fit and complement the terrain,” said Els. “I am excited to
design a course that will cater to all levels of players, as
well as provide a visually beautiful backdrop.”
During the news conference at the Plaza Club, a ClubCorp club in downtown Honolulu, Els discussed the new course, his vision that it will one day serve as the site of a PGA Tour event, and his pleasure to be working with Haseko and ClubCorp. Afterward, Els greeted members of the Campbell High School golf team (the school’s athletic department will be the first beneficiary of the Ernie “Els Cup” Invitational annual charity golf tournament), presented them with autographed hats, and posed for photos.

Golf memberships in Hoakalei Country Club will be limited in
number in order to ensure our Members’ enjoyment of the Club’s
outstanding facilities, privileges and world-class service.
Memberships will be by invitation only to qualified individuals.
Individuals and corporations interested in membership will need
to have the Club’s Steering Committee and future Members extend
an invitation to join.
Several membership categories will be offered at Hoakalei. Visit the Membership Section for additional information and to complete a membership request.
